International Standard on the quality improvement of Opinion Polls and Market Research

The Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS) as well as the Association of Cypriot Opinion & Market Research Companies, member of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation, successfully organised a seminar regarding the international standard ISO 20252:2006 “Market, opinion and social research” in Nicosia, on Friday, June 30 2006. 

The new international standard, which constituted the central theme of the seminar, is the ultimate event in a series of efforts from experts all around the globe and aspires to become a reference point for companies or organisations conducting market or opinion research. 

The main adviser in the seminar was Mr. Erich Wiegand, President of the European Federation of Associations of Market Research Organisations (EFAMRO) and CEO of the German Association of Market and Opinion Research Companies (ADM). According to Mr. Wiegand, the new international standard is not the lowest common denominator but it may be used as a useful tool to improve the quality of the market and opinion researches conducted. At the same time, it will allow the conduction of crossborder and multinational researches, ensuring that the methods and procedures used in all states are similar and comparable. 

Members of the Association of Cypriot Opinion & Market Research Companies as well as business and organisation representatives from the wider sector of Opinion Polls, Market Research and Media, attended the seminar. The official seminar sponsor was the Laiki Bank Group and the official media sponsor was Phileleftheros.
